My letter to those interested in addressing environmental and cultural problems in an entertaining new way:
Dear Music and Nature Lover,
I'm writing to invite your support of a bold new project I'm creating. This work addresses some of the biggest challenges of our time in totally unique story-concerts that can change the way people think about the world. In planning to launch early next year, I realized that a small fundraising campaign was necessary.
First, a bit of background: I've been a full-time independent musician and performer for over 20 years. I handcraft Native American style flutes, compose music, and produce CDs of my music. At hundreds of shows and festivals on the east coast of the USA I've sold over 180,000 albums and 850 flutes. (You can visit flutewalker.com to find out more.)
Years ago I had a flash of insight that led to the programs described in the enclosed brochure. The insight was that the ethnic flutes I love to play would lend themselves to retelling the story of humanity's migration around the world-- and that this story could shine surprising new light on both cultural issues and our current environmental crisis.
Somehow, working on these programs has given me a whole new philosophy of where we are now in our human journey, which you can read about on the next page.
I'm excited about getting this work out into the world! And I'm starting to market the programs but need six months to complete the scripts . . . compose new music . . . and get the stage setup equipped and ready.
So I'm looking for supporters to provide a total of $20,000 to enable a proper launch in February 2009. Can you give $300 or $500 or $1000 or more toward this work? Any amount will be welcome, and will be used to finance my preparation time and some essential stage equipment.
I've started by marketing to colleges and universities (see brochure). I welcome your thoughts about other venues, and also other individuals who might be interested in furthering this work.
Thanks so much for your time and consideration!
Sincerely,
Werner John
PS- I've enclosed my newest CD, "Comfort in the Night", which is part of a deep relaxation series. I hope you find it soothing and enjoyable.
