Little Tree Flute
The Little Tree is a surprising variation on the Native American flute . Five small holes on top and a thumb hole on the bottom of this mini flute give the full range of an octave and a third, at a pitch quite a bit lower than you would think. The secret to the mellow sound is the closed end... it's actually an ocarina with Native flute 5-hole fingerings. And the chromatic in-between notes are in tune, too, so you can be surprisingly creative with this little instrument.
This flute is perfect for young children with its soft sweet pentatonic sound and easy to play design. Head Start programs have ordered sets for kids down to age three. The Little Tree makes a great backpacking flute too, less than 11 inches long, just 3 ounces and very sturdy.
